Welcome to The Electric Current Rundown podcast episode number 49.
And I’m your host, Phil Defiance, and I’ll always say I’m here to encourage the spread of intriguing knowledge that can spark fires in the minds of those seeking inspiration and truly improving the world.
And what I’m going to be talking about in this episode includes a continuation of where I left off on the topic of how an experiment to amplify light in hospital operating rooms led to the accidental invention of the snow globe.
And then I’m going to be talking about a little bit more a continuation on what I talked about a few episodes back a little bit more on the topic of Canada and Donald Trump.
I mean, I’m not trying to talk too much about Canada, but I mean, I’m forced to because of, I mean, it’s been in the news, you know, but okay, so, I mean, with a little bit other angles than I talked of the last time I talked on the topic.
But okay, so also I’m going to be talking about based on our article I read, Dazzled by Creativity, Why We Excuse Dishonest Acts.
So okay, to continue on where I left off on the topic of how an experiment to amplify light in hospital operating rooms led to the accidental invention of the snow globe.
So I mean, okay, so that guy, like about a hundred years ago, he ended up accidentally inventing the snow globe, but just like that, I mean, because he like wanted to create a light for hospital operations and it didn’t really work out.
I mean, it wasn’t exactly what the doctors were looking for, but it was like, you know what, I’m an inventor.
And I mean, that’s just the beauty of like invention and innovative thinking.
And if you’re like trying to do business, I mean, like it’s similar to what I talked about quite a few episodes back on the topic of business, like how to improve your business skills if you want to do business yourself.
I mean, like repurposing your ideas.
I mean, if it didn’t work out in one way, then you could try it in another way.
And like, I mean, also connected to like one of the self-help books I mentioned, I’ve read, which was on the topic of learning from your failures.
I mean, the guy, that’s what it’s really about.
I mean, even in this context, when it comes to this situation, the guy, he tried to create a light bulb type thing for like operations inside of hospitals, and it didn’t really work the way that he thought it would.
I mean, the doctors didn’t like it, so he repurposed it.
And guess what?
It made him a huge success.
And till this day, the company that makes the snow globes, like the proper ones, it’s the same company, that exact same one that invented the snow globe, like about 100 years ago.
And guess what?
His family still runs it.
Like his grandson is like the main guy operating it, and his great granddaughter is now like operating it too, along with her father.
So that’s intriguing.
But like, I mean, the guy, the original guy, he ended up repurposing that technology, which he originally intended for hospital operations.
And then he ended up saying, you know what?
This can be done for another thing.
And so he created the first snow globe.
And like, he was like, wow, like, I mean, because like, I mean, those shiny things inside of snow globes, like, it’s like a perfect, like, mixture, chemical mixture that creates those shiny objects that look like snow.
And that’s exactly why it got so popular over the decades and over the last century, really.
Because it actually kind of looks like real snow and like shake it up, boom.
It looks like snow falling nice and slow.
And then they even add music into it.
I mean, it’s a really like magical looking thing.
And like, I mean, so like the first guy that invented it, he like made a decent success, but then his son ended up expanding the company and like made it like even bigger than ever.
Like he was the main guy that really like brought it to an international scale, especially into the United States.
And then his son, the grandson of the original inventor, he ended up expanding it even further across the globe into Japan and like other areas and expanding the operation and like making it even bigger, even moving the manufacturing facility into a bigger compound.
And so like, I mean, it’s a intriguing story.
And I’m going to finish off on a little bit more on that topic after this quick break.
And then I’m going to switch topics.
So, OK, on this break, I’m going to say at plainbowl.com, we have an expanding catalog of high quality clothes and consumer goods.

That’s plain like airplane plainbowl.com.
And yes, I mean, improving on the site is going to get better.
It’s a work in progress.
I had to go on a detour on it, but soon it’s going to be like perfect.
And like, I mean, if you like my operation, if you like my podcast, then you should buy like at least one item from there.
If not like today, then in a few weeks, you should really do it because you’ll help me out and really get me to like, like really get better at this whole operation.
I could end up buying equipment and other things.
But either way, okay.
So like, I’m going to continue on to finish off on that topic.
And that, I mean, really, okay.
So like, the grandson of the inventor of that, he expanded the operations into Japan and really expanded the profit of the company.
And then handed, I mean, he’s currently handing it off to his daughter, the great-granddaughter of the original inventor.
And like the company is like just doing better than ever.
I mean, no wonder.
I mean, a lot of people like the inventor of, I mean, the originator of a certain thing.
Like think about Coca-Cola, for example.
And there’s plenty of others, obviously.
You, whoever is watching of this, you yourself can think of many other examples.
But okay, I mean, you see what I mean.
But I want to switch topics right here.
So, okay, I’m going to talk about other aspects of the Trump and Canada situation, as it has been playing out.
I mean, okay, so like when he became president, he was going to lay down tariffs.
And then he didn’t.
He said he’ll pause it till February.
Then, well, actually, no, no, he was going to do it in February originally, then paused it, then paused it again as we entered March.
And now he’s saying that he’s going to do it in April, the tariffs.
And like, I mean, there’s all this talk from both sides of the border, especially the federal government here, like Justin Trudeau, who’s still prime minister.
He should have just stepped down.
I mean, he ended up resigning.
And I’m sure that Trump had a big, like, influence on Trudeau, realizing that it’s about time that he goes.
Because after Trump made a fool of him, I mean, look at the photo where that kid was, like, doing that goofy looking thing that he did.
I bet you any money that Trump planned that out.
But either way, I mean, Trump’s a genius.
But okay, I mean, Trudeau still really stepped down.
Even Trump, I mean, as I’m recording this, I’m recording this in March 7th right now.
Obviously, this will be released in a couple of weeks.
So, I mean, that will be around the 20th or so.
But either way, around March 7th, the other day, Trump had a call with Trudeau.
And like, he even asked him, so when’s that election happening?
Like in other words, why are you still prime minister?
Like didn’t you just resign recently?
Like, it’s like absurd.
And then on top of that, I mean, it’s just, I mean, Trudeau is a horrible thing for this country, Canada.
I mean, if you’re an American, believe me, like I can’t believe the guy’s prime minister.
And like, I mean, it’s a crazy situation that’s going on in Canada these days.
I mean, just like up to December, a lot of people were sick and tired of Trudeau and his party, the Liberal Party, which is basically the equivalent of the Democrats here in Canada.
But suddenly, they’ve had a resurgence in polls because Trudeau decided to resign, even though he’s still not stepped down.
But there’s obviously, well, I mean, if you’re American, you might not be aware of it.
But like, I mean, if you’re Canadian, you know this.
There’s a process going on here in Canada right now between a couple of contenders for the head of the Liberal Party to face off against the conservatives, which is the equivalent of the Republicans in the United States.
And that’s what’s really going on.
I’m going to finish off on that, though, in a moment.
And I’m just going to go on this quick break before I finish off on that and switch topics as I finish off on the episode.
So okay, on this break, I’m going to say, okay, motor mouth, motorist, don’t motivate like motorcyclists.
At planebowl.com, we motivate and captivate an era of dominance.
And you’ll have your own era of dominance while wearing one of our motorbike shirts.
So end up in that situation by going to planebowl.com and getting a short, I mean, a shirt like that.
That’s Plane like airplane, planebowl.com.
But either way, okay, so yeah, so it’s like ridiculous.
So I mean, what’s going on in Canada?
And I mean, it’s crazy that there’s a resurgence in the polls over here.
Like suddenly people want a liberal to replace Trudeau.
I mean, as the next prime minister.
I mean, that’s not even guaranteed because over here we got a parliamentary system.
I mean, there’s also a possibility that the conservatives, the equivalent of the republicans in Canada, the conservatives might end up forming a minority government, which is in relation to the parliamentary system over here.
And that means that the prime minister wouldn’t get full power.
He’ll just get partial power and he’ll have to form a coalition with another party, most likely the NDP, which is ridiculous because the NDP is like extremely far left, like the liberals are like more like almost kind of a centrist left type of deal, while the NDP is like extreme far left.
So it would be a really strange coalition to have extremely far left, along with right wing conservatives.
But that could happen, and it has happened in the past.
But it would be really crazy if the liberals over here in Canada ended up winning election.
I mean, if they did, they would end up with a minority government, because there’s no chance that they end up in a majority, having full power.
But I mean, think about it too, like, I mean, it’s funny.
I mean, if you’re an American, you may not be fully aware of this, but like, I mean, Justin Trudeau, the current prime minister, he never really got a majority government.
He never had full control.
He always had to like form a coalition with the far, I mean, extreme left or far left NDP party, which are actually called the New Democrat Party.
But either way, I mean, like, Justin Trudeau is crazy.
I mean, it’s like such a weird situation.
It’s all connected to also the fact that Trump’s imposing these tariffs or threatening to do so.
And obviously, there’s an element to that when it comes to Trump being a businessman.
It’s a negotiation tactic.
But either way, I mean, like, all this talk about tariffs has created a situation where Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada has like created a new sense of patriotism here in Canada.
I mean, it’s funny.
It really is.
Because Justin Trudeau, for the last three years, has cancelled Canada Day.
It’s ridiculous.
I mean, how can you be a patriot and also be the same guy and same party that cancelled Canada Day?
I mean, okay, I respect Native people.
I have a lot of Native friends personally.
I like them, but they like it.
Trudeau, Justin Trudeau, was like saying, oh, because of like controversy surrounded by like the Christian church, like about 100 or 200 years ago, even like 70 years ago, 50 years ago.
I mean, dating all the way more recently to that.
Like, I mean, like, like natives being mistreated.
And honestly, I feel bad about that.
I mean, I don’t support the mistreatment of native people personally.
But at the same time, I mean, like, like this type of stuff is like digging at old wounds, like digging at old scabs, like you’re just creating more controversy, more like, like just a situation where people are like looking at each other, like they don’t like each other.
I mean, I don’t feel that way.
I love native people.
But like, I mean, this could create like people disliking each other.
Some people could easily, I mean, could get influenced in that way.
But like, I mean, because of that situation, Justin Trudeau over here ended up canceling Canada today.
And for the last three years, we officially have been saying that we don’t want to support the tradition of celebrating Canada Day in relation to all of that.
So, I mean, it doesn’t make any sense.
How is it that Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, which is his party, want to be patriots all of a sudden?
Well, for the last three years, they have been saying, we are canceling Canada Day.
It doesn’t make sense at all.
These people are hypocrites.
These people are not real.
They’re untrustworthy.
They’re just manipulators.
That’s what’s really going on.
And that’s all I have to say on that.
And I really want to talk about this last topic.
I talked about those first two topics a little bit too long, but okay, I’m going to talk about this real quick.
And that’s the last topic of Dazzled by Creativity, why we excuse dishonest acts.
So I’m going to talk about it, like a lot faster than I originally thought I would.
Okay, the thing is that people don’t like dishonesty, and of course, I mean, it makes a lot of sense, and that’s funny too, because I was just talking about dishonesty.
But okay, I mean, I’m just talking about it in a general sense, not politicians or Canada or anything like that, just generally, like people being dishonest.
Obviously people don’t like dishonesty.
Obviously people don’t like liars, but like, I mean, when people get really creative in their dishonesty and lying, like if that happens, like a lot of the time people actually end up excusing that kind of behavior.
And actually it’s down to a psychological sense.
The reason for that is actually, I mean, because people are impressed.
Like, wow, he actually like really went an extra mile to actually get that done.
Like, I mean, the way that he did it, it’s like a shocking, surprising, like, wow.
Like, it like startles people.
And then like, they’re like, oh, okay, well, you know, he was dishonest about that.
But you know what?
I’m gonna let it slide.
I’m gonna respect it to a degree.
And it’s because of the creativity that that person may have put into it.
And that actually is a human condition.
Like people are impressed by intelligent actions.
And if they see like, oh yeah, he was dishonest, but he was really smart about it.
Like it was like impressive.
Then suddenly it’s like, okay, it’s excusable.
So it’s like a strange form of psychology.
And it probably has happened to you at least once or twice in your life.
And like, I mean, a lot of people have experienced similar things, whether they themselves were dishonest or they’ve witnessed it.
You know what I’m talking about.
And that’s really the explanation to it.
I mean, I read about it in an article, and it makes a lot of sense after having read that perspective.
So that’s why I really thought that it was a good idea to talk about it.
And I’m sure you, after having heard me say that, feel like, wow, that actually makes sense.
But okay, so now that’s the end of this episode, episode number 49 with me, your host, Phil Defiance.
And I’ll always say I’m here to encourage the spread of intriguing knowledge that can spark fires in the minds of those seeking inspiration and truly improving the world.
And till next time, have a good one.
